Verdi: Macbeth Blu-ray (The Royal Opera)

Phyllida Lloyd's production of Verdi's Macbeth for The Royal Opera in Blu-ray is a production defined by colours black, red, cream and gold. Verdi's sturdy setting of Shakespeare's Scottish play is conducted by the superb Antonio Pappano. The characters go in and out of resembling Gothic fresco, being manipulated by a pack of scarlet-turbaned witches. Simon Keenlyside plays a strong and towering Macbeth with Liudmyla Monastyrska as his Lady.
