Glyndebourne's hauntingly beautiful production of Nikolaus Lehnoff's Tristan und Isolde is contemplative and clever, available on DVD.
Surrounded by the stunning womb-like set by Roland Aeschlimann, the protagonists move through it like gods. Mirrored by Lehnoff, the conductor Jiří Bělohlávek intricately approaches each shift in texture of the score, showcasing its depth in an inspired collaboration with London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The gloriously lyrical Isolde by Nina Stemme and Tristan by Robert Gambill are matched by the excellent René Pape as the betrayed and vulnerable King Marke and Bo Skovhus as Kurwenal.
The High Definition DVD recording reveals the unusually intimate and personal side of operatic music and its drama. See our full collection of opera DVDs and Blu-rays
