Wagner's Der fliegende Hollander2012 production by Jan Philipp Gloger is revived in this 2013 performance at the Bayreuth Festival, available in Blu-ray. Controversial but critically acclaimed, Gloger's interpretation tells the tale of the Dutchman who redeems his hardships through the unconditional love of a woman - Senta. He takes the story to a part-human/part-cyborg future that's subject to business and commerce. Senta and her fellow seamstresses are replaced by a fan-making factory, and the final tableau Dutchman and Senta's holy union is commemorated by the factory workers now producing souvenir statuettes of the couple.
One of the greatest Wagnerian conductors in history, Christian Thielemann compliments the production and elevates it to new heights. Filmed in High Definition and true surround sound.
