La Fille mal gardée DVD (The Royal Ballet) 2025

La Fille mal gardée follows Lise, the spirited daughter of Widow Simone, who is determined to marry her true love, the young farmer Colas, despite her mother's plans to match her with the wealthy Alain. Through wit and determination, Lise sets out to outsmart her mother's schemes.

A beloved Royal Ballet classic since its Covent Garden premiere in 1960, Frederick Ashton's sunlit adaptation of Jean Dauberval's French ballet captures the charm, humour and romance of rural life. This 2025 production features Francesca Hayward as Lise and Marcelino Sambé as Colas, with Osbert Lancaster's vibrant countryside designs bringing the story to life.
