DVD recording of Wagner's Der fliegende Hollander from 2013 Bayreuth Festival. This praised performance was a revival of Jan Philipp Gloger's widely discussed 2012 production. Gloger interprets the tale of the Dutchman as a futuristic part-human/part-cyborg fight for existence in a utopian world of business and commerce. The Dutchman's endeavors are redeemed through the unconditional love of Senta, and their divine union is celebrated by statuettes of the couple sold in the factory that replaced Senta and her fellow seamstresses.
Enriched with conducting by the esteemed Christian Thielemenn, the greatest modern Wagnerian conductor, the production is taken to new heights. Filmed in High Definition and true surround sound.
