The second part of Der Ring des Nibelungen collection, Die Walküre, is Richard Wagner's opera that explores the clash and fight between Power and Love. This DVD recording from The Netherlands Opera (Nederlandse Opera) is a unique production by Het Muziektheater Amsterdam. It takes on the challenges of staging The Ring tetralogy with Pierre Audi's direction in which the orchestra is placed on the ring-shaped stage, reaching a deep connection between the lyrical, mythical and philosophical qualities of Wagner's composition. Supported by George Tsypin's stunning sets and astounding costumes by Oscar-winning Eiko Ishioka, this production of The Ring is based on the recent collected works by Richard Wagner.
Melodramatic vocal performances and fierce playing by the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra with the passionate baton Hartmut Haenchen creates an energized and stimulating performance.
