Sir Antonio Pappano conducts Verdi's I due Foscari for The Royal Opera, with a dynamic and dramatic setting by Thaddeus Strassberger, stunning sets and opulent Renaissance-style costumes designed by Kevin Knight and Mattie Ullrich. Plácido Domingo stars as Francesco Foscari, Doge of Venice, tenor Francesco Meli takes on the role of Francesco Foscari’s son Jacopo, unjustly accused of treason and forced to appeal to his father’s mercy, and soprano Maria Agresta sings Jacopo’s wife Lucrezia, determined to free him at any cost. Antonio Pappano, Music Director of The Royal Opera, conducts Verdi’s dramatic early score.
