Verdi's La Traviata is one of the greatest operas of all time. Based on the novel and play La Dame aux camelias by Alexandre Dumas fils, the story draws inspiration from the real Parisian courtesan, Marie Duplessis, sacrificing everything for love. The most beautiful arias and duets are performed by soprano Ermonela Jaho as Violetta, Charles Castronovo as Alfredo and Plácido Domingo as Giorgio.
The engaging production by Richard Eyre is enriched with stunning designs by Bob Crawley. Antonello Manacorda conducts and offers an outstanding showcase of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and Royal Opera Chorus.

"Jaho gives everything she has, especially an exceptional diversity of soft singing, intimate, vulnerable, dreamy, apprehensive, intense and the result is a deeply moving portrayal." Financial Times
"Jaho’s mix of defiance, fragility and savage honesty builds to an overwhelming finale." The Guardian
"Castronovo is a splendid Alfredo, his bright, springy tone capturing the character’s impetuosity." Gramophone
"[Jaho] is heartbreaking and possesses a delicious luminosity of tone. Charles Castronvo is a suitably ardent Alfredo; Plácido Domingo a woofy Germont... The production... is handsome and traditional." Opera Now
