Verdi: Stiffelio DVD (The Royal Opera)

Verdi's Stiffelio is an essential part of the composer's canon, although once deemed as 'lost' due to censorship and controversy. The 1993 DVD recording from the Royal Opera House is conducted by Edward Downes and features José Carreras as the Protestant minister whose wife betrays him with a family friend and therefore knocks down his faith. Carreras leads an outstanding cast, including Catherine Malfitano, Gregory Yurisich, Gwynne Howell and Robin Leggate.
