The Covent Garden Tea Towel features exclusive designs by Portia Graves. Featuring Covent Garden's iconic architecture and lively ambience, this tea towel highlights the Royal Ballet and Opera, showcasing the main stage and talented performers, along with the Apple Market, Punch and Judy Pub, Jubilee Market and the iconic bridge of aspirations. The vibrant piazza is also captured, complete with street performers adding to the bustling atmosphere.
Portia started by photographing the areas of Covent Garden she loves including the Royal Opera House. She sketched simple outlines and shading with a charcoal style pencil, then added a splash of colour keeping it neutral. She digitally painted watercolours behind each sketch to decide which colour scheme and settled on a fresh mint green and pale dusky rose. The design was then turned into a seamless pattern for printing, using a textured watercolour paper and digitally stitched together.
